Stone Age Painting in Court

Stone Age people lived in tents and sometimes slept out side. Their homes and clothes were made out of animal skins. Their weapons and tools were made out of stones called flints.

8,500 years ago the earliest settlers came to Ireland. In Co. Derry in the Mount Sandel area remains have been found as well as on the shore of Lough Neagh, near Dingle in Co.Kerry, in Cork and also in the midlands.

One day our class collected berries, leaves, and flowers. The next day we made paint. We boiled water with a gas boiler. Then we squashed berries with a pestle, and added different flower leaves and salt to the water. They boiled together and we strained the coloured water through a sieve. We did the same with berries to get other colours and then we did the same with muck to get a different colour again.

Later that day we painted and drew with sticks that Sir had burned a bit. We painted with pencils with straw on the ends. When it was near 3 o’ clock we figured we better finish it on Monday. We cleaned up.

Then first thing on Monday, we started on it again and about an hour later we were finished.

Our masterpiece is displayed below for your pleasure.
