December 2004

To help St. Mary's and the environment we must REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

During the month of December we welcomed  a parent, Marion Dolan, to our committee.

The result of a Healthy-Eating Survey, sent to parents, showed that over 99% of the parents were in favour of  the policy being implemented.

A  competition for making Christmas decoration from recyclable waste was held. The items made were of a very high standard and the prize-giving was held in the school hall on 21/12/'04.

Our second litter survey showed that the amount of litter collected in the yard on Dec.17th was 1kg 175g. We were very pleased with the improvement when we compared it with the October result of 4kg 750g.

Just before the Christmas holidays we sent a Green-Schools Newsletter to parents about Christmas waste which can be recycled.

A third lunchbox survey showed that many girls have changed over to re-usable plastic bottles instead of fruit juice tetra paks and foil paks.

Well done to all and keep up the work in the New Year.
