Green Flag was discussed at our first Committee meeting of 2005. We decided to start writing up the 1st six answers to the application that week. Members from 3rd class up each got a piece to write. Application is to be in by the end of Feb.
slow progress with regard to the change over to small sandwich boxes in order to further reduce the amount of tinfoil & plastic bags in lunch boxes. A new Action Plan was drawn up to try to encourage more pupils make this change. One of the suggestions was that each class would set its own target per week for the following two weeks – until Feb. 4th_ when the next Lunch box Survey would be carried out. The signs at this stage are that it’s proving very successful.
Assemblies
on Jan. 25th & 26th: 1. Our black bins are now down to 4 per week-We started
with
12! 2. December's Litter Survey showed a decrease in schoolyard l
litter
by over 3Kg since October! 3. The number of fruit juice tetra paks being washed by 5th class has reduced on average from 50 to 7 per day. That means approx. 215 tetra paks per week are no longer going
into our recycling bins! 4. Most students are now bringing a re-usable plastic bottle or flask for their lunch drinks instead of foil-packed drinks or tetra paks. October '04 November '04 December '04 February '05 March '05 May '05 |
