European Project - Leargas

Survive in Europe

The aims of the project are to promote cultural links with Europe and to promote genuine learning about Europe through means of IT and others.

The project was initiated with a meeting in Scotland of the four partner schools. Mona Troy and Patricia Halpin attended from our school. The initial plan was launched and each teacher returned to her respective school full of enthusiasm for the project.

With this plan in mind we have been in contact with our partner schools by both snail mail and e-mail. Culture Capsules have been exchanged and the children have begun to develop an understanding of life in the other countries.

Teachers on Tour!

In May 2000 Mary Leamy and Teresa Browne, teachers of 4th Class, visited Lisbon as part of the "Survive in Europe" programme. There they met with Carol Page, Morag Twisse, Marie-Louise Orum-Petersen and Maria Helder Valerio. Future plans were discussed in between sight-seeing and school visits. Both teachers had a most enjoyable visit and praised the hospitality of their Portuguese colleagues.
