Computer Studies

It is the policy of the school to ensure that each child is computer literate when they leave us. A great deal of money has been invested in technology to achieve this aim. Presently the school is involved in a Schools' Integration Project in conjunction with the other schools in town. The aim of the project is to see how best we can integrate computers into the modern curriculum. This is a very exciting project in which all classes are becoming involved.

Recently our school was short-listed for an award in the Eircom Best Practice Awards 2000 in recognition of the work being done with computers in the school.

Scoil Chríost Rí is also an accredited ECDL Test Centre and classes are held on a regular basis leading to the European Computer Driving Licence qualification.

For more information on the ECDL, contact the school at 065 6820105.

Assessment and Remediation

Scoil Chríost Rí is very conscious of the needs of all its pupils. Assessment is ongoing and where necessary, weaker pupils are given remedial assistance in English, Maths and Language Development. This assistance, given in small groups, greatly aids their academic and social development in the school. Above average pupils are also catered for, with the aim of developing them to their full potential.

Rainbow Program

Rainbows are a peer support group for children bereaved through death, separation, divorce or abandonment. The course consists of 12 weekly sessions during which the children are allowed to express their feelings under guidance of a trained facilitator.

European Project

Our school has joined forces with schools in Denmark, Scotland and Portugal to take part in the Comenius Action Programme. This is a European Education Programme, funded by Leargas, designed to encourage pupils to co-operate on the production of a "Survive in Europe" guide. The aims are to develop awareness of the culture, language and lifestyle of partner countries. Pupils from all schools have been in touch with each other and we have sent "Culture Capsules" and greetings to each other. Each child has a pen-pal in one of the partner schools and communication is ongoing. Two teachers from our school went to Scotland to help set up the project and to meet the other teachers involved in the project. Since then teachers from Scotland, Portugal and Denmark have visited our school. Two more of our teachers recently visited Lisbon to discuss the next stage of the project with the partner schools.

The Arts are well catered for in the school with Speech and Drama, Art, Music and Choir all on the Curriculum.

Children learn Speech, Mime and Movement, Characterisation, Improvisation, Choral Speaking and Verse Speaking, and they have also done some Scripted Drama and Creative Dance.

Previously a 4th class group worked with artist Rhoda Daly to produce a colourful mural based on a circus theme.

Both class groups have benefited enormously from these experiences, learning not just technique but also how to appreciate Art in all its forms.

Music, both choral and instrumental, is well catered for in the school. We have some very talented teachers on the staff and some very talented pupils! Our school choir is very well regarded and they provided a beautiful accompaniment to our recent 21st Anniversary Mass
