The collar in the picture is made of gold and is called a Gorget. Lots of gold was found in County Wicklow. The twists of gold in the Gorget were made by putting a leather string beside a strip of gold and twisting them together. Then the leather string was untwisted.
The discs at the top of the gorget were stitched to the collar with very thin gold thread.
