The Cork School Project (CSP) opened it's doors in Sept.'87. It was the first multi-denominational school in Munster (the southern-most of four Irish provinces). In 1985 a meeting was held by the Inter Church Families Association. Following this gathering a public meeting was called and an ad-hoc committee was established to look into the possibility of setting up a multi-denominational school in Cork city.
The committee called another public meting in June 1986 at which the CNSP Association was formed. This meeting also elected the first Executive Committee which set about seeking sanction for the school and a premises to house the project. The CSP opened with 75 pupils and two teachers on the 1st September 1987.

The CSP like the other multi-denominational schools in Ireland has four guiding principles, reflecting the ethos of a pluralist society in which there are many social, cultural and religious strands co-existing in harmony and mutual respect. These are:
In accordance with the fundamental principle of the CSP the Board Of Management offers a Religious Education Programme designed to help children understand the religious traditions of life and thought which they meet in their environment and to help them to be sensitive and open to value systems based on humanist non-theistic philosophies and the fundamental human rights issues.
