Highlight of 1996/1997 - The Cork School Project Opera

At the start of the school year we got our theme. We got our theme by writing down all the things that are important to us. The theme that came up the most was Family. Then we got the thesis, we got three controversial statements. They were all very good but we had to pick one of them. The one we picked was Mocking is good for Us.

After a small while we had a visit from John Brown from the London Royal Opera. He did some music with us and he taught us how to use percussion instruments properly. We had great fun with him. One or two months later Brendan Beales from the London Royal Opera taught us how to put music to lyrics. He was good fun as well. When John Brown came for a second visit we knew it meant more fun and more music.

The first day we had to get into groups of seven. We had to make up a piece of the opera. He gave us a certain piece . It was to act out the triumph in the story. We used percussion instruments as in wooden xylophones, glockenspeils, drums and lots more. The second day he taught us how to use different tunes and how to put them together. We sang bits of songs in between.

We got our logo by voting for the best one. We started with seventy or so logos. Then we cut them down to six logos. Finally we voted for this one. Here is what it looks like.

Classy Kids Company name was very hard to pick. We came up with our name from lots of other names. We voted for all of them to see Nvhich one was the suitable for our opera. Then we came down to two names. They were Classy Kids and Mission Imp Opera. We voted for those and now our Opera companys name is Classy Kids.

Then we talked about the characters. We called them A,B,C,D,E,. They are cheeerful, obedient, funny, noisey, helpful and so on. Our writers now will write the scripts for the characters,

We did the auditions last week for jobs. We picked out the actors. We will soon know what we will be doing. We are hoping to have our opera ready at the end of April.
