The Dublin based CTC IRELAND is one of the longest established cycling clubs in the city having been founded in 1932. It has almost 200 members on its books and caters for all levels of skill and fitness. The members are men and women of all ages and entire families in some cases. In addition to cycling events there is also a full social calendar.
The Club meets at 10:00 every Saturday and Sunday morning for a trip to the out of the way locations around Dublin. There are easy and more difficult runs each week and the easy riders will guarantee to keep pace with the slowest member so there is no fear of getting lost or being left alone. Some members choose to stay out for the day and bring sandwiches and a flask with them but most return mid morning to be at home for lunchtime.
New members are especially catered for with the group keeping pace with the slowest member. However, the classic runs, which are identified on the Runslist are suitable only for more experienced cyclists and because certificates or medals are awarded it is not possible on these runs, which occur about once a month, to cater for new members. In addition to lunch locations the easy riders also know, and without a moment's hesitation stop at, the best coffee shop en route.
If you commute to college or to work you are probably fitter than a lot of our members who spend all Sunday cycling and all week in the car or bus. Why not enjoy your cycling while exploring the picturesque and quiet roads in your area in good company. Our experienced members know every lane and back roads in Dublin and its surrounding counties and will stop for a lunch at spots which, despite being near to the city, provide ideal locations for a picnic. So if you have a bike in reasonable condition and have done even a little cycling yourself why not join us on a Sunday.
CTC Ireland is one of over 230 local groups throughout the UK and Ireland that form part of the Cyclists' Touring Club. This, the oldest cycling club in these islands, has over 50,000 members. It was founded in 1878 as the Bicycle Touring Club and for over a century it has promoted recreational cycling and protected cyclists' rights. In addition to publishing Cycle Touring and Campaigning the CTC provides travel and technical advice, legal aid and insurance to members. CTC campaigns to improve facilities and opportunities for all cyclists.
