Wicklow Times Cup
Glenealy Clinch Cup as Rathdrum Raise Shield
Four schools participated in the Wicklow Times Cup and Shield competitions last Saturday in glorious sunshine at the St. Pat’s GAA Grounds in Wicklow. The schools that took part were St. Pat’s, Glenealy, Rathdrum and St. Fergal’s. There was a series of round robin games in which each school played the other three. The results of these matches were St. Pat’s 0.3 Glenealy 3.2; Rathdrum 3.4 St. Fergal’s 3.1; St. Pat’s 5.2 St Fergal’s 0.0; Rathdrum 0.1 Glenealy 4.6; St. Pat’s 7.0 Rathdrum 0.1; Glenealy 6.0 St. Fergal’s 2.0. Tremendous skill was displayed by pupils from each of the schools. In particular Conor McGreanor from Rathdrum caught the eye with his goal scoring feats. Glenealy’s Alan Conyard took some fine long range points while the Rathdrum keeper Ciarán Franklin brought off some excellent saves. The two finals were replays of the opening matches with Rathdrum taking on St. Fergal’s for the shield. This was a very tight affair with just two scores separating the teams at half time. Despite a valiant come-back Conor McGreanor’s second half goal ensured that the shield was going to Avondale. In the cup final the score stood at two goals all between St. Pat’s and Glenealy at the interval. However an early second half goal for the reds broke the deadlock and from then on the destiny of the Wicklow Times Cup for 2005 was decided.
The panels were as follows:
Glenealy: Alan Conyard, Joseph Hogan, Shane Keogh, Glen O’Gorman, Warren Kavanagh, Luke Anderson, Gavin Weir, John Manley, Martin Dimov and Neill O’Gorman.

In the skills competition the winners were as follows: Glenealy Shane Keogh; Rathdrum Mark Byrne; St. Pat’s Conor Sexton; St. Fergal’s Ryan Nolan. David Moran once again sponsored the long puck competition. St. Pat’s Conor Cox was first, Glenealy’s Shane Keogh was second and in third place was Rathdrum’s Mark Byrne. Prizes were presented by Pat Dempsey of the Wicklow Times. Cumann na mBunscol wishes to thank the St. Pat’s club for the use of their facilities. In particular club members Frank Naughton, Gerry Higgins anad ensured that everything was in order long before any of the teams arrived. On the day master of ceremonies was Andrew Cornyn and the referees were Declan MacInerney and John Sexton. Lunch was provided by Louise Sexton and Kay O’Brien. To all we say a huge go raibh míle maith agat.
