Sunday October 22nd.
Two years had elapsed since the title had come to Blackpool. St. Finbarr's had captured the trophy in 1942 and 1943 and during this period an intense rivalry had been built up due to the enormous success of the Agustinians' Tournaments which had been won by the Glen.In addition to those retired, Jack Lynch had gone to Dublin and Jim Young to U.C.C., so this was an entirely new outfit bidding for fame. The team was captained by Din Joe Buckley and no effort was spared to bring the title over the bridge once more.

The "Examiner" reported: "Amidst scenes which recalled All Ireland finals at Croke Park, Glen Rovers regained the Cork County Senior Hurling Championship at the Cork Athletic Grounds yesterday when they defeated St. Finbarrs by 5-7 to 3-3 having led at half-time by 4-3 to 1-0.Ten years ago Glen Rovers won their first senior title and though the Glen held the title for eight years the teams never met again in a final until yesterday. The meeting gripped the imagination of Cork followers and their recent display in the Agustinians' Bicycle Tournament heightened interest to almost fever point. For three-quarters of an hour the huge crowd was treated to a rousing displayof hurling and despite the heavy state of the pitch the pace was remarkably fast.

A feature of the game was the display of the Glen forwards, their combination brought a new dimension to hurling. It had to be seen to be believed and the ringleaders were Charlie Tobin, Jack Buckley and Christy Ring.

The game commenced at a furious pace and inside a minute Denis Leahy had the ball in the Barrs net. This lead was increased to 2-3 after 27 minutes but just before half-time the title was won and lost.

The "Examiner" reported:- "The next two minutes however proved disastrous for the Barrs.A sparkling bit of play by Christy Ring resulted in the Glen front-line being placed in possession and a clever manoeuvre by Jack Buckley, Denis Leahy and C. Tobin left Tobin with an easy shot from a few yards range and he had little difficulty in beating Mulcahy for a goal. The cheering had scarcely subsided when the same three forwards were in possession. Again they manoeuvered according to plan, their own plan, and J. Buckley, unmarked, crashed home another easy goal".

The Barrs replied with a goal and at half-time the Glen led by 4-3 to 1-0.

Thrills continued right from the start of the second-half and after 14 minutes a goal to the Barrs by Jackie O'Sullivan reduced the arrears but then disaster struck them when one of their own players turned the ball into his own net to give the Glen a firm hold of the game. The next fifteen minutes was fought out score for score and at the end the Glen supporters went wild with excitement,The march was on once more and the side cars ready to take home the victorious heroes.
