Minister for Transport (Mr. Seamus Brennan): The Dublin Transportation
Office (DTO), in conjunction with South Dublin County Council, is seeking
to facilitate a transport solution for Lucan and its environs, and to
facilitate a modal shift from the private car, which will relieve congestion
in the area.
An Integrated Framework Plan currently being drafted by the Council
for the area will provide guidance for development in a manner that
makes most efficient use of the current and proposed transport network.
The DTO receives grant assistance from my Department in respect of the
development of the quality bus network in Dublin. Plans for Quality
Bus Corridor (QBC) developments are coordinated by the DTO in consultation
with the Local Authorities. Processes are underway to extend and upgrade
the QBC from Lucan to the city center.
The provision of cycle ways and cycle parking in any area is a matter
for the local authority in the first instance. Government assistance
is available to local authorities in the Greater Dublin Area for the
provision of facilities for cyclists through traffic management grant
funding administered by the DTO. Additional cycleways and pedestrian
facilities will be introduced as part of a network formulated under
the Integrated Framework Plan.
