SCHEDULE DEPARTMENT Schedule Manager (l)Schedule Assistant (1/2)
Technical Manager (1) and Technical Assistant (1+) The Technical Department are the guys that help to make sure everything works and everyone knows how to use the software and hardware. As a Manager you will need to co-ordinate with the other departments to prioritize the problems and schedule repairs/fixes/help and training. You will need to know about hardware, software and audio equipment to some degree, and you will need to know who to talk to if you need more information on a problem. As a Technical Assistant you may be a specialist in software, hardware or audio equipment. What you don't know you know you'll pick up easily because you can quickly get the information you need from the internet/library/or from another specialist. You're going to love databases as the whole radio station will depend on databases to order, control and share information.
Sales Manager (1) and Sales Assistants (2+) The Sales Department will be responsible for making money for the radio station. By selling advertising slots to companies like MacDonalds, by syndicating soundbytes to other radio stations and by co-ordinating with the PR Department to run competitions and events that brings in the euros. As the Sales Manager you'll need to work with the Financial Manager to see what money we'll need six months down the road - and then work out how to get it. You'll need to co-ordinate the Sales Assistants, see where they are successful, and maximise on that success.
As a Sales Assistant you will be talking directly to all the companies in the Thurles and Clonmel region to convince them to give us money. You'll bargain, beg and scrape to get the money in. You'll love the challenge of meeting targets and get on really well with our advertisers.
PR Manager (1), PR Assistants (2+) and WebSite Manager (1/2)
The PR Department is responsible for advertising the radio station and raising our profile so that our name is known to all. As PR Manager your responsibility will be to organise and run successful (but cheap) advertising campaigns, events and competitions. Despite our small broadcasting range you'll make us appear as the biggest radio station in Ireland. Everyone will know about us, and those who cannot get us on their radio will be jealous. You'll know who is listening to us, what they like, what age they are, what they had for breakfast. You'll enjoy running competitions (the Sales Department got the prize from an advertiser), you'll be dishing out T-Shirts and key rings at the beach party you organised in the college canteen.
As a PR Assistant you'll have an exciting time running competitions and parties. You will be the party animal who gets to know everyone including advertisers and guests. You'll be the person on the microphone auctioning a prized Station T-Shirt for as much money as you can get. In the office you'll tell the Schedule Manager who is the most popular DJ, what music is in the college top 5 and more.
As WebSite Manager you'll be keeping our website running and up to date. The design looks brilliant, the animation funny, the navigations and forms easy! You'll be sending emails to all the people in the contact database. You'll be getting information for the PR and Sales Departments, hosting competitions, updating the schedule page and DJ profiles. You will optimize and link until we're number one in Google and Yahoo.
Financial Manager (1) and Finance Assistant (1) The Finance Department will be responsible for keeping us out of the red. Keeping the books, projecting future costs, controlling expenses and dealing with the bank. The Financial Manager will work with all departments to maximise sales and sponsorship and reduce and control costs. You'll bring reality to crazy ideas, and keep everyones feet on the ground. The books will be perfect and easy to read, perhaps you're using TAS Books software. You're not afraid to give the bad news, but perhaps could offer a financial alternative or solution. You are tough, everyone will want money when there's none. You can sell. Sponsors will love your projections and plans. As Finance Assistant you'll work hand-in-hand with the Financial Manager. Finances will be a joint responsibility, as they say 'two heads are better than one'. When the Manager cannot attend you will be there to fill the shoes. You know everything about the books and projections. You are indispensable.
Library Manager (1) and Library Assistant(l+) The Library Department has all the information, who played what artist, when they played it and do we have to pay royalties for it. Hosting, maintaining and expanding the music library will mean DJ's will have
the song and information for their show. As Library Manager you will be setting up databases for the top 30, contact lists, and more. You will work with the Schedule Manager and DJ's to make sure we have enough cd's of shows in the library to keep us on the airwaves. The playlist will show all the information we need to make sure we're not playing the same thing over and over again (and loosing listeners). You'll work with PR and Sales to co-ordinate competitions and contacts.
As Library Assistant you will help the Library Manager and fill-in when they're missing. You will be able to supply all the facts and figures when requested. You'll know where every show is on cd in the library. You'll be telephoning Sony Records looking for the latest tracks for the MP3 library.
Schedule Manager (1) and Assistant Schedule Manager d/2)
The Schedule Manager and Assistant are in charge of the Schedule/Programme Department. This department controls what gets played on air and when. It will be required to have a schedule planned and confirmed weeks in advance. This will involve co-ordinating with the DJ's and Library Department to generate shows. You will need to make sure there is a mix of shows that follow the ideas and wishes of the audience, students and advertisers (information you request from the PR and Sales Departments). Your main responsibilities will be that the radio is on air 24/7, has exciting and appealing content and includes advertising that must be scheduled to the advertisers wishes. The Schedule Department will include at least one assistant, but will also depend on the other departments.
Station Helper (10+)
Perhaps you're not sure you have enough time. You don't want responsibility. Well you can still help. Teamwork will be the key to success. The radio station cannot operate without the help of the students. Today you could be helping respond to emails, tomorrow you're helping the Web guy with some graphics. Every bit of help you can give is appreciated, and in return you'll have a little fun and maybe find something interesting and exciting.
DJ's (100+)
Without you there is no radio station. You love music, you can talk, you want to be heard. All you need to do is put together a few tunes and add a voice-over. If you're stuck, the Tech guys, Schedule team, and website will have the information and know-how to help you produce your first show. Check out the website first for the software and cd format information. Perhaps a friend will help you research and produce. Don't have a computer at home? See how you can use the
college's equipment to cut your cd. We need to create a library of shows to keep us on the air 24/7.
