“Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years!” ~ Charles Haas

Choosing the food we eat is the biggest political and the most far-reaching act that occurs daily in Ireland and worldwide. This food section will help you take back control of your food, so you can make more ethical choices in your supermarket trolley and eat healthier. Environmentalists encourage people to eat locally grown, fresh, in season, organic food. They cite environmental, health and economic reasons for this;

-Environmental, as the food has not been transported over long distances, causing pollution.
(This is called food miles. For example, farmers in Kenya are growing green beans for us in Europe rather than crops for their own families.)

-Health, as our bodies are more suited to local varieties of foods

-Economic, to keep local producers and neighbours in business
