Since the Celtic tiger began, traffic
jams are on the rise in Naas Town. Solving our traffic
dilemma is a pressing issue.
In November 2004, the Government announced record infrastructure investment in rail, road and bus transport in the year ahead of €2.119billon. Of this amount, €1.319 billion will be spent on the National Roads Programme, with €686 million to be spent on public transport; twice as much to be spent on roads, than on sustainable transport.
Ireland's motorway building programme has had a fair share of critics. Controversies like the Glen of the Downs, Carrickmines, Tara and the M3 have led to huge construction delays as well as questioning our extreme car dependent culture.
