“I saw christchurch cathedral and the city it looked so grand, and kilmacthomas and port-law, bonmahon and tramore strand” Waterford Song

Waterford is Ireland’s oldest city established in 853 by Viking settlers. It has lots to offer its citizens and visitors. Our city is in a boom period with fast growing suburbs. This has caused a large increase in traffic and pollution problems. Now is the time to actively participate in our city’s development to ensure we move towards more sustainable living.

The town centre is compact and easy to walk around, with some pedestrian streets like Great Georges St. and Baron Strand. The lovely Farmers' Market on Jenkin's Lane, busy on Saturdays, and is a great place to buy local and organic produce.

The city centre has many local craft shops, bicycle shops, second hand charity shops, art galleries and much more. Supporting local businesses is essential for a long term sustainable economy. Otherwise, large chain stores tend to put local shops out of business.
