Darndale Senior N.S. is a mixed co-educational primary school on the Northside of Dublin, catering for children from 8 to 12 years. The school was built in 1975 alongside the Junior School. Both are 16 teacher units, but now also have a further 16 pre-fabs. Below are a few details about our school but you can read a more detailed account of the area and the school by clicking on the link "Outline". For more details on the history of the school and the staff click on "History". We have a lot of childrens' work to show you, Art, writing, poems etc. You can see our work by clicking on "Children's Work" above. Fr. Willie Fitzpatrick P.P. has prepared a page on the parish - you can read this in the "Parish" page. We have many facilities which you can read about on our "What We Offer" page.

The school is built in an L-shape with a two storey wing at each end of the central single storey. Each wing has 8 classrooms. The central section has an assembly area (which can be used for P.E.), the Principal's office, Secretary's office, Staff Room, store rooms and the Library. Each classroom has toilets contained in a room within it. Upstairs in each wing we have a room, extended from its original size. One of these is now our Computer Room, the other functions as a Maths room. We have a large yard for the children at lunchtime. Many of the children go home at lunchtime as the children all live close to the school.

"Our library room was part of the integral structure of the school. Unfortunately, like many other large schools, as the school grew the room was 'commandeered' for use as a classroom for some time. As soon as was possible, it reverted to its intended use. The present library was set up in 1992. There are over 4,000 books almost equally divided between fiction and non-fiction. Non-fiction books are arranged according to the Dewey System.
Our library has been partly stocked by supplied from the Dublin Schools Library. However, we get most of our books through the yearly Book Fair, where we get 55% commision, to be taken in books. The parents help out in organising this book fair. The Board of Management has also given the Library an average of £300 per year for the last few years.
Each class visits the library once a week. Children borrow books to read for their own pleasure or to do projects. The library has also been used for
- Paired Reading
- Displaying work for the Write a Book Project
- A visit by the local author Patrick Meehan who wrote The Shamrogues' First Challenge and The Shamrogues' Second Challenge."
Ms. J. Ryan.
