JOHN BRAINE
DJ/Producer
Born:
14-11-1972
Location:
Shankill, Dublin
MUSIC:
Mainly Melodic
Techno, Tech-House, Daddy-House (?) and Deep House.
Anything futuristic sounding yet oozing with soul is me all over.
I also
like (and will play depending on venue etc) Electro, hip hop,
leftfield
electronica, drum & bass, hard(ish) Techno, anything with a
bit of depth,
originality and funk. I like to have a bit of fun with it all
too. If
pushed for one favourite genre of music, I'd have to say GOOD
music.
DJing
STYLE:
I do my best to
achieve smooth seamless mixing in a way that
doesn't disturb the flow of the music. Depends what I'm playing
aswell,
I like to throw in tricks and crossfades, where possible without
overdoing
it.

An
overview of Johns DJing and musical work:
If he had to
pigeonhole himself he'd say he plays 'deep music'. A lot of
people say its fast hard rhythmic music that makes them dance.
Emotion makes John dance.
Depends on the crowd, place, etc. but he usually plays a mixture
of Deep Techno, Deep House, Tech-House and Electro. He plays hard
sometimes but as long as it's got some feeling, or is mad funky,
or just something special. Given the chance (i.e. a chill
out/back room) he play's more laid back, experimental and ambient
stuff, again, as long as its got feeling.
John likes to flow through styles in a gradual journey rather
then just the
same thing for the whole night. In mixing he prefers to let the
music do the
talking as much as possible. He like's DJ tricks but not if it
imposes too much on the music itself.
Over the past 2-3 years he's built up a small studio in his
garage and
records for the critically acclaimed Cardiff based label
'Headspace'. His
debut EP "A Shift Through The Shadows" which included a
remix by Soma's Funk D' Void got good reviews in Muzik, Mixmag,
Mixmag update, and a number 2 slot in (Legendary
technosoulmeister) Steve Rachmad's chart.
His favourite artists include Morgan Geist, Dan Curtin, Envoy,
Carl Craig,
Derrick may, Kenny Larkin, Jeremiah Grow, Aubrey, Slam, Chris
Gray, Plaid
Maas, Funk D' Void, Steve Rachmad, Sean Deason, CiM, Dave Angel,
Tom Churchill, Underground Resistance, Juan Atkins, John Tejada,
Redcell, Tom Middleton and many many more.
John and Dean are hoping to work together and start a Techno offshoot sister label with Impulsive Records. His music is unique and after hearing one tape from John, Dean immediately called John up and got him on board. With Deans music more recently delving into Deep Techno John has provided a platform for Deans work as a DJ and producer plus has opened some doors for John. The rest is being created as you read this...
