Amber This portrait was a pleasure to paint. Amber's mum, Debi had asked her if she would like to be a faery for me and she had dressed and danced for her photo. The photo couldn't have turned out more perfect as you can see. Everything was so natural. Children make great models. Their complete lack of self-consciousness is a pure gift. Ideas of how to portray her flowed easily. Her positioning allowed for a range of ideas, but I eventually opted for her holding a flower garland. The same flower, which her dress is made from, is the Ragged Robin. A common meadow flower here in Leitrim and one of the prettiest. |

Amy I'd taken the photos for this portrait in the summer of 2000, but had delayed starting work on it until early 2001 because I think I was a little nervous about capturing her likeness adequately. I imagine an eleven-year-old to be far more critical than maybe an infant or adult because again, children are less likely to worry about your fragile ego . . . so the pressure to make perfect was intense to say the least. Fortunately, this was not the case, as she was really pleased with it . . . and so was I. I think she was perfectly suited to that beautiful array of autumn leaves. |

Bea Bea is my resident model. Seeing as I am forever reeling off film of her doing absolutely anything and everything, she is always around to capture the perfect picture. I have a vast collection of photos just waiting to be applied to the right idea. Flowers are so versatile for these types of portraits and compliment children wonderfully. Daisy is my favourite, probably because I love to see and hear her laughing. I'd say its got to be the most enchanting sight and sound any mother could experience. Andrews favourite is Foxglove, but that means we've left out Buttercup . . . I hate that, especially when our little Buttercup is so beautiful. |
