The Spanner Magazine

The Spanner magazine was launched in November 2004, and further issues were published in March and May 2005. The Spanner is a satirical news magazine with each issue jammed full of spoof news, arts, celebrity and sports stories.

The Spanner is a full colour 32 page A5 size magazine. It is edited by Dermot Corrigan, written by a small team of writers based around Ireland and published by oxygen direct, who are also responsible for student website oxygen.ie. It is distributed free in Ireland's colleges and universities. The most recent print run was of 15,000 full colour magazines.

The main difference between The Spanner, and say Magill or Village, is that each story in The Spanner is totally and completely made up. Also each story in The Spanner is supposed to be funny.

Already The Spanner magazine has published stories with headlines such as Iraqi Insurgents Not Targeting Irish People, Kevin Myers Doesn't Exist, Michael O'Leary Named New DIT Head and Irish Heroes Past Pissed Off With GAA. Click on a magazine cover to read some of the stories from each of the first three issues...
