Glendalough (a morning in June)

Enticed by early morning sun,

clouds of mist shrink from the upper lake.

Disturbed, a lonely heron skims the mirrored water,

then, rising with grace, turns.

A squadron of hungry crows

cloned by reflection, rant hysterically.

Too late for lambs with succulent eyes,

they scour for nourishment

on ancient granite tables of Lugduf,

where wild goats with jaundiced eyes

hold aloft, scimitars of disdain,

unnoticed by Sika that vanish in silence.

The place where Chaoimhin knelt,

Where kings in myth and stark reality lie,

I trespass, a pilgrim in search of Mecca,

A dreamer in search of dreams.
