album? produced by tom waits?
In an interview with the New York Times, Frank Black has said
that he has considered recording a new album with the rest of the Pixies. "I
have thought of that concept, yes," Mr. Black said. "I
wouldn't mind asking Tom Waits to produce us. Why not? I like the way his
records sound." The bands agent Marc Geiger has said
that he hopes the band will record a new album early next year.
It was also revealed that the song Bam Thwok, which recently topped the UK
download chart, was originally intended for the Shrek 2 soundtrack. The
track proved too "edgy" for the film and was replaced by a
Counting Crows song.

From Billboard.com:
Pixies Pen First New Song In 13 Years
The Pixies reunion has now yielded more than just sold-out concerts. The
iconic rock act has penned its first new song in 13 years, "Bam
Thwok," which will be available tomorrow (June 15) at midnight for
digital download exclusively via Apple's iTunes Music Store. The cut
features bassist Kim Deal on lead vocals plus a 15-second organ solo
recorded years ago by guitarist Joey Santiago's father-in-law while he was
doing missionary work in the Philippines.
Deal says her lyrics were inspired by an art book she found on the street.
"This kid had written a short story, a paragraph really, about a
party that took place in another universe, about people and monsters that
were partying together," she says. "It's a song about loving
everyone [about] showing good will to everyone."
Adds vocalist/guitarist Frank Black, "The recording process was very
relaxed and it didn't feel like 12 years had passed." The cut is the
first new Pixies original song to emerge since the Oct. 1991 release of
the group's last studio album, "Trompe Le Monde."
The Pixies are in the midst of a European tour that hits Paris tonight
(June 14) and wraps July 11 at the T in the Park Festival in Scotland. A
U.S. tour, including a pair of Lollapalooza appearances, begins July 22 in
Ventura, Calif. NME:
PIXIES RELEASE BRAND NEW SONG
PIXIES have written and recorded their first new song for thirteen years,
and will release it tonight through the Internet.
'Bam Thwok' will go on-sale for 99 cents at midnight (June 15) exclusively
on Apple's iTunes Music Store.
Written by bassist Kim Deal, the track was produced and recorded by the
band at Stagg Street Studios, Los Angeles, in March.
Clocking in at 2 minutes 35 seconds, the lyrics for 'Bam Thwok' came from
an art book Deal found on a city street while on tour a few years ago.
She said: "From the handwriting, you could tell that this book must
have belonged to a little kid. This kid had written a short story, a
paragraph really, about a party that took place in another universe, about
people and monsters that were partying together. That's what provided the
inspiration for the lyrics."
The chorus features the lyrics: 'Love. Bang. Crash. Wakka, Wakka, Bam
Thwok'.
Deal added: "It's a song about loving everyone... showing goodwill to
everyone."
A carousel-esque organ solo also features in the track, which was
performed and recorded by guitarist Joey Santiago's father-in-law many
years ago, when he was doing missionary work in the Philippines.
'Bam Thwok' was arranged and rehearsed at Santiago's home studio.
Singer Frank Black said: "Recording it was a nice way for us to break
the ice after twelve years. The recording process was very relaxed and it
didn't feel like twelve years had passed."
Pixies are currently touring Europe, and return to the UK for the T In The
Park festival on July 11 and the V Festival over the weekend of August
21/22.
The band recently played a rapturously-received four-night sold-out stint
at London Brixton Academy (June 2-5).

PIXIES WRITE AND RECORD FIRST NEW SONG IN THIRTEEN YEARS
"Bam Thwok" Will Make Its Debut via Apple's iTunes
OK, all of you Pixies fans, the moment you've been waiting for has arrived
-
the PIXIES have written and recorded a brand new song, the band's first in
thirteen years, and you can get it starting at Midnight, Tuesday, June 15
exclusively on Apple's popular iTunes Music Store. "Bam Thwok"
was penned
by Kim Deal and produced and recorded by the Pixies at Stagg Street
Studios
in Los Angeles this past March. The 2:35 "Bam Thwok," with Deal
singing
lead, can be downloaded from the iTunes Music Store for 99-cents
(http://www.apple.com/itunes/).
The music for "Bam Thwok" had its genesis in a chord progression
that Deal
had been toying with for a while, and the lyrics from an art book she
found
discarded on a city street a number of years ago while on tour. "From
the
handwriting, you could tell that this book must have belonged to a little
kid," Deal recounts. "This kid had written a short story, a
paragraph
really, about a party that took place in another universe, about people
and
monsters that were partying together. That's what provided the inspiration
for the lyrics." The song is a musical romp, and features a driving
beat,
searing guitar, and the whimsical chorus, "Love. Bang. Crash. Wakka,
wakka,
Bam Thwok." "It's a song about loving everyone," Deal
added, "showing good
will to everyone."
The Pixies - Deal (bass, vocals,) Frank Black (vocals, guitar), Joey
Santiago (guitar), David Lovering (drums) - arranged and rehearsed the
song
at Santiago's home studio, which includes a 15-second carousel-esque organ
solo performed and recorded many years ago by Santiago's father-in-law
while
he was doing missionary work in the Philippines. "That's a great
piece of
music," added Deal, "and it fits perfectly."
"'Bam Thwok' is a really good song," said Frank Black.
"Recording it was a
nice way for us to break the ice after twelve years. The recording process
was very relaxed and it didn't feel like twelve years had passed."
As the Pixies are not currently affiliated with a record label, they had
the
luxury of making their first new song available to fans around the globe
at
a low price and instantaneously, something that iTunes could easily
provide.
The Pixies plan to perform "Bam Thwok" at concerts on their
current European
and upcoming North American tour dates.
