official live cds
From Billboard:
The Pixies will make every show from their upcoming 15-date North American tour available for sale immediately after the performance, Billboard.com can reveal. The group will be touring with a recording truck from DiscLive that will press a limited run of 1,000 CDs per show (2,000 for the May 1 performance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif.). The double-CD sets will sell for $25 at the venue or $22 if they're pre-ordered through DiscLive's Web site.

At each venue, fans will be able to purchase a voucher prior to the concert. Approximately 10-15 minutes following its conclusion, they will trade the voucher for the show on CD, including artwork specific to that performance. Any CDs that are not sold at the show will be available from the Disc Live site; CDs can also be mailed to the buyer. There is a two CD limit per customer.

reunion shows sell out
Taken from Billboard.com:
"
Confirming that interest in the Pixies' music has not waned since the band's 1993 demise, 11 of the 12 shows scheduled for the group's impending reunion tour sold out within minutes over the weekend. At the 1,600-seat Prairieland venue in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, capacity has been doubled to accommodate additional fans.

"The demand has been so great," Prairieland events manager Carl Schlosser enthuses to Billboard.com. "We are the largest venue, so we'll be that overflow for fans who may have been shut out in other cities." Tickets for the 12th show on April 29 in Davis, Calif., go on sale March 1.

The Pixies have logged several weeks of rehearsal in Los Angeles in preparation for the North American dates, which culminate May 1 at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. "We were all a little nervous when we first got together, but within maybe five minutes, everything felt completely comfortable, and it was like the last 11 years had never happened," vocalist/guitarist Frank Black says in a statement.

Adds bassist Kim Deal, "I experienced what I call 'muscle memory' -- we'd be playing a song and I didn't even have to think about what note came next -- my fingers remembered what to play."

Following Coachella, the group will take a short break before hitting Europe for festivals and headlining appearances. So far, confirmed dates begin with a June 2-5 stand at London's Carling Brixton Academy and also include a June 11 appearance at the Super Bock Super Rock festival in Lisbon, two mid-June shows with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Dublin and Paris and a July 10 set at the T in the Park festival in Kinross, U.K."

free pixies tribute album
Over on frankblack.net, you can now download "Hey - A Pixies Tribute" from their FTP site. Among the 22 tracks is a crazy German(ish) version of Mr. Grieves complete with horns and "w"s pronounced as "v"s as well as a club mix of Silver. Crazy. But nice...

frank black: the musical
New York producer Josh Frank is making a Broadway musical about the life of Frank Black. "Teenager of the Year" will follow the enitre career of the Pixies and Frank Black's solo career. Frank has discussed the idea with Frank as well as Joey Santiago and David Lovering. Frank Black was amused at the idea at first but then realised that Josh Frank was serious.

They're saying it's "a beat poem to the 80's and how alternative rock crashed the mainstream party". Josh Frank has says it'll probably be "more like a November to January premiere".

re-issues
Official site says:
"Great news... The Pixies 4 and a half original albums are to be given a sonic carwash and remastered for US release in May 2003 direct from the studio masters - 'Come on Pilgrim', 'Surfer Rosa', 'Doolittle', 'Bossanova' and 'Trompe Le Monde'. Also being re-released will be 'Pixies at the BBC' and the 'Complete 'B' Sides'." And get this: "Meanwhile the uk weekly NME has voted 'Doolittle' the second best album EVER with 'Surfer Rosa' also in the top 100 at number 31."
Elsewhere, I read this: "The discs won't be receiving any embellishments"
And this: "The Pixies reissues will have no remastering, no bonus tracks and the currently available versions are available at deep discount as is. Oh, and they're splitting up Come On Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa into two separate
albums again." *
