The school start was soon upon us. We returned from Scotland on the
23rd and school was to start on the 1st of September. We still
had to buy books and supplies before it started.
The kids went shopping in early August for their uniforms but the
rest of the supplies and books still had to be purchased. One week
before school starts... uh-oh will they have everything we need?
I mentioned the uniforms, it seems every school has their own
uniform and they are quite expensive. The two older kids are not
too fond of them, but they'll make the best of it. Bud's
uniform consists of dress trousers (or slacks, but not pants!)
dress shirt, tie and a jumper (sweater). He also must wear
black socks and dress shoes. Wow does he look sharp!
The girls uniforms at the national school are very nice.
They have light blue polo shirts, a navy skirt or slacks and a
jumper. Plus they have a track suit for "PE" days.
Including Buddy's jacket (required) we spent over 400 Euro.
Not so bad when you consider we would have spent well over $500
for school outfits in the U.S.
Bud and I practiced tie knots for several hours the night before
school. He's got it down already just a few weeks into the
school year.
Books: Ireland schools don't have the books like the U.S.
counterparts. We've had to buy all of the books and supplies
necessary for their education. We've spent over almost 1000
Euro just in uniforms and books. Another big expense, but it
has to be done.
Both Bud & Sweetheart are taking up french this year.
Sweetheart and Boo both are learning Irish, slowly. Everyone
has the normal English, "Maths",
Social/History/Geography etc. They are all doing quite well
and keeping current. I'm very proud of all of them. It's
hard making this kind of a move, but I think they've all done
remarkably well. Probably better than I have!
