The National Reference Point for Vocational Qualifications in Ireland

In every Member State (UE and EEA), a national reference point which gives access to information on the vocational education and training system has been established. The national reference points are networked.

The Main functions are:

    • To be the first point of contact when questions relating to national qualifications, certificates and certificate supplements arise.

    • Provide access to providers of relevant information or to contact points with national bodies which have the information.
    • Answer questions or transfer to the relevant national body
    • Be a national partner in a European network of reference centres with similar responsibilities

The National Reference Point for Vocational Qualifications in Ireland is the responsibility of the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland in association with the Further Education and Training Awards Council.

NARIC

National Academic Recognition Information Centre.

The Naric is a network of National Centres created in 1984 to help in regulating title recognition and facilitating the integration of national educational systems. It aims at improving academic recognition of diplomas and periods of study in the Member States of the EU, the EEA countries and the associated countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Cyprus and Malta. All of them have designated national centres which provide authoritative advice and information concerning the academic recognition of diplomas and periods of study undertaken in other States. The main users of this service are higher education institutions, students and their advisers, parents, teachers and prospective employers.

The Irish Naric has been officially designated as the contact point for the council Directive 89/48/EES on the recognition of higher Education diplomas awarded on completion of professional education and training of at least three years duration.
