Donegal Town's hopes of winning the Lyric Donegal League were surely dashed when they lost three one to leaders North West A in Letterkenny (13.12.2000). They now lie seven points adrift of the champions and although the match was tight, the better team won on the night. Tom Plunkett lost his first frame in the league to date but despite playing like a novice, he fought back to defeat an out-of-sorts Joe Devine. North West would not lose another frame. Their three remaining players have been around as long as anyone can remember and they can still pack a punch. Bernard McGuinness was clinical in defeating Michael Neary, Gerry McCluskey came back from the dead to snatch victory from Terry Mullin and Gerry McKeever had a break of 39 en route to a topsy-turvy win over Oliver Plunkett. The tea was sweet afterwards as North West reflected on a record of nine straight wins with only one match to go until the half-way point is reached.

CYMS kept up the chase by winning four nil against Twin Towns B. Phelim McClafferty had a 38 en route to a two nil win while Chris Gibbons had a 32 in his win over Christie Henderson. The other two nil winners were Paddy McGroarty and Anthony Duffy.

Killea are hitting form at last and they enjoyed a four nil romp against Convoy B. Gerald Lennon, Brian Woodrow and Shane Grant all won, while Robert Brown won for the eighth time to jointly head the Player of the Year rankings.

Twin Towns A resumed the winning habit with a comprehensive 4-0 win against Ramelton B. Jack McGranaghan's team have had a lean time of it lately and this win was much needed.

North West B enjoyed an excellent 3-1 win at home to Ramelton A. Johnny Connors, John Doherty and Brian McAleese won for the Letterkenny men while Mark Friel enjoyed a terrific two one win over in-form Michael O'Hara.

The Player of the Year competition has four players battling it out for top spot...Chris Gibbons, Phelim McClafferty, Gerry McKeever and Robert Brown. All have eight wins from nine games. The top two will make the county team for the Inter-Counties in May.

The second round of matches in the Junior League saw North West open up a two point lead at the top thanks to a 4-0 win in Convoy. Johnny Connors, Michael O'Hara, Stephen Black and Richard Gerrity won for the visitors to set them up nicely for the resumption of the league in January. Donegal's junior team drew its second county match with Twin Towns. The winners for the home team were Luke McGee and Conor Browne, who has a 100% record to date while Jason Browne and Simon Connolly won for Twin Towns. North West have six points, Twin Towns four, Donegal one and Convoy have yet to earn a point.
