DONEGAL TOWN SNOOKER CLUB
The committee of Donegal Town Snooker Club has called an Extraordinary General Meeting to discuss a proposal to change the layout of the club's facilities. This meeting will take place in the club on Friday the 18th of February, 2000 at 9.30 p.m.
The club got back to winning ways last week by defeating Ramelton three two at home. It was the closest of margins with victory only achieved when Tom Plunkett doubled a re-spotted black in the final frame of his match with Mark Friel. The Ramelton youngster was in sensational form, potting clinically and finding the baulk cushion with regularity on safety shots. He will undoubtedly be a player to watch out for in this year's County Championship.
Paul Thomas won his eighth match out of nine, playing his best snooker of the league so far. Oliver Plunkett had earlier set the ball rolling with a classy victory over three frames. Martin Mulhern and Alan Ramsay were the unlucky losers. Donegal remain locked in a three way battle for the runners-up spot with Ramelton and Killea.
Kevin Mulhern won the inaugural Coulter Cup by defeating Mark B. Gallagher three nil in a keenly contested final. Thus he laid claim to the title of best newcomer as this was a pool competition exclusively for first year beginners. All three racks were close and Mark was unlucky not to win at least one. Kevin was clinical in taking his chances and was a worthy winner. Peter Coulter was on hand to present the cup to Kevin in front of a large and appreciative gallery. He thanked John McGlanaghey for his thoughtful donation of a cup in memory of deceased members of the Coulter family.
The next junior competitions will be a singles pool championship open to all junior members and a doubles pool tournament which will be restricted to the younger beginners. Entry is free. Anyone wishing to join the club is very welcome. The membership fee is £2 for the year and we are encouraged by the growing number of both boys and girls who are joining. Ninety juniors add a dynamic to the club which is essential and welcome.
