DONEGAL SNOOKER CLUB

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Barry Mulreany, Tower Bar the snooker club is once again hosting a snooker tournament, which is exclusively for players who have celebrated their fiftieth birthday. It's the second staging of the event, Barry having also sponsored last year's competition. The players will be competing for the Harry Diver Cup and the man to beat has to be Donal Monaghan who won last year after a titanic battle with Dinny McGroary. Competitors will once again be handicapped with last year's performances taken into account. If anyone is interested in trying their luck they can give their name to John McGlanaghey, Norman Johnston, Kieran Temple or any member of the club. The club wishes to thank Barry for his continued financial support of a novel and enjoyable competition.

The club's Donegal League team returned from Convoy with a three two win against their A team. Winners on the night were Charlie Murphy, Paul Thomas and Tom Plunkett. Michael Neary and Mark McGroary were unlucky to lose against worthy opponents.

The club is once again organising a Pool Pairs Championship. Last year's benefactors - The National, The Bluestack, Carolan's and Jimmy's Tavern - have generously continued their sponsorship of a very keenly contested competition and it is gratefully appreciated. The draw will be at the end of the month and everyone is welcome to enter. The entry fee is £5 per pair.

The draw has been made for the Coulter Cup, a pool competition for the junior beginners. Club steward John McGlanaghey has kindly presented the trophy to the club. Twenty-nine lads entered aged between nine and thirteen. They are encouraged to play their matches as soon as possible. The competition rules are posted in the club.
