Michael Breslin won the Canon McMullin Cup by coming from two down to defeat Charlie Murphy in one of the most memorable finals held in the club. Charlie quickly raced into the lead, although Michael could also have snatched the first frame. A twenty break in frame two was the highest break of the final and it enabled Charlie to haul back a large deficit and pinch the frame to go two up.

Then the fightback began. Michael started potting and Charlie, try as he might, could not raise his game. Frames three and four went Michael's way and set up a decider. Michael had a run of fifteen at a crucial juncture and soon Charlie needed snookers. After a bout of safety, Michael potted brown, blue and black to win his second club championship.

For Charlie it was a major disappointment having also lost a two nil lead in the County Championship last year. He can, however, look back with pride on a season in which he achieved breaks of 133 and 101 and represented his county in the All-Ireland Inter-County championships in Tralee.

Michael Hunt presented the trophies to the winners and semi-finalists Tom Plunkett and Paddy Kelly. Michael thanked all present, his gracious opponent, the club committee and John McGlanaghey for providing such a beautiful surface on which to play.

Now that the season is over Donegal Town Snooker Club would like to thank its many sponsors who have contributed so much to the success of the club in the past year. We could not have hosted the County Championship without the help of our main sponsors Supervalu, Hanna Hats and Jim White Hotels and the generosity of McGroarty's Bar, F.B.D. Insurance, Dunlevy PVC Windows & Doors, Irish Permanent, E&J Oil, Errigal Grill, Allied Irish Banks, Ulster Bank and Abbott Ireland.

We also pay tribute to the sponsors of the many tournaments that we ran. We thank Barry Mulreany for sponsoring the Harry Diver Cup; Jackie McMullin for his generous sponsorship of the Inter-Firms last year; The National, Jimmy's Tavern, The Blue Stack and The Dew Drop Inn for sponsoring the Pool Pairs Championship and Kieran Mullin for never failing to provide sandwiches for every home game during a busy league season.

Finally we express our sincere gratitude to Dom and Michael Breslin for their substantial gift to the club at a time when major expenditure was being considered to upgrade the facilities. It was totally unsolicited but very much in keeping with the character of the two men. We hope that they and all our sponsors over the past seasons are pleased with the progress of the club in that time and we hope that they will continue to be associated with us in the years ahead.

Donegal Town is indeed fortunate to have so many firms prepared to sponsor a huge variety of sports clubs. Without them the area would be a much duller place.
