Donegal Town's poor start to the Derry League continued with a five one defeat in Letterkenny against North West A. Anthony Bonnar showed why he won his seventh county title this year by compiling a break of 81 in his draw with Charlie Murphy. Pat Bonnar whitewashed Tom Plunkett for the second week running while substitute Paul Thomas fought valiantly before losing to Paul Doherty.
Donegal Town won their opening Donegal League match defeating Ramelton A three one. Charlie Murphy was the stars of the show, compiling a break of 84 en route to a two one win. Paul Thomas won two nil as did sub Terry Mullin who had a 42 break in the process. Martin Mulhern lost two nil.
In local competitions, Seamus Faulkner, Charlie Murphy, Conal Haughey, Aidan McGee and Kieran Mullin have reached the quarterfinals of the John Griffin Cup. They join Martin Mulhern and Terry Mullin in the last eight.
The Paddy Kelly Cup is the junior championship and this year's winner is Nicholas Culloo who defeated Mark Mulhern in a riveting final watched by an appreciative gallery. This is Nicholas' second win in the club and the way he cleared the colours in the second frame hints strongly at a promising future. Mark played well and looked set to tie the match up at one each but in an astonishing finish Nicholas doubled the brown and a few moments later potted blue, pink and black to seal an excellent win. Nicholas is a worthy champion and Mark was extremely gracious in defeat. Well done lads!
The Inter Firms Pool Shield is up for grabs again and last year's winners Jimmy's Tavern will be all out to retain their title.
