Donegal defeated Ramelton A three one in Ramelton in the Donegal League. Tom Plunkett, Michael Neary and Oliver Plunkett all won two nil but Paul Thomas met an in-form player in Mark Friel and the Ramelton man triumphed two one.

Justin Thomas reached the final of the Connacht Under-21 Plate final last Sunday but unfortunately fell at the final hurdle. Well done Justin on reaching the final. Gary Spencer reached the semi-final of the same competition. Sadly, only Aidan McFadden reached the second round of the tournament proper. Hopefully the lads gained a lot of experience and will be better able next time to pursue the main honours. Darren Flaherty is the new Under-21 champion.

The third annual Pool Pairs Cup will begin soon. Entries should be forwarded to John McGlanaghey. All matches will be played in the clubrooms. The entry fees are: £5 per senior pair; £4 per junior/senior pair; £3 per junior pair. The closing date is February 2nd. The holders are the Plunkett brothers.

The draw for the Sean McCafferty has been made. The holder is Damien Hanna. Already there has been a titanic battle between Sean Boyle and Francis Cassidy Snr. with the Christmas Hamper winner edging it on the black.

The draw for the Coulter Cup sponsored by (David Crawford and John McGlanaghey) has been made. The holder is Kevin Mulhern. He won his first match less than ten minutes after the draw was made. That's commitment!

The Harry Diver Cup draw (sponsored by Barry Mulreany) has been made. Kieran Temple and John McGlanaghey have the details. The holder is Paddy Kelly.

The club is roughly fifty years in its current location and Tom Plunkett is researching its past with a view to writing a booklet to record its colourful history. It would also be published on the club's website. He is in the process of interviewing both current and former members with a view to gleaning as much information as he can about the history of snooker, golf, Boston Pool, skittles, lives and billiards in the town. They have been a mine of information! He still needs lots of help with the following:

  1. Photos in the club are non-existent prior to 1981 so he would love to be able to copy any photos which anyone may have of Water Street pre or post 1951; the Shamrock Hotel; former caretakers such as Alec Buchanan, Johnny McHugh, Tim McMullin, Jack McMahon and James Murphy; former committee members; Paddy More Doherty; Tommy O'Donnell who looked after the tables for years; photos of table-tennis or badminton teams who played in the clubrooms; the old Market-House at Milltown, a former venue in the forties/fifties; a photo of Canon McMullin and Fr. Deeney; a photo of George T Gallagher, the contractor in 1951; any players of billiards, skittles, golf (the billiard game!) or snooker from days gone by such as Capt. Andrews, Phil Timony, Guard John McGettigan, "G" Doherty, Peter Meehan, etc. I have over 700 names on the club member database so I need as many photos as possible. The more the merrier! All photos would be returned once copied.
  2. He needs information about a John McNulty who signed his name on the old Shamrock Hotel table in 1906 and 1907.
  3. Hugh Gildea, a spirit dealer owned a billiard room on the Diamond in 1894 (whereabouts unknown). He lived on Main St. in the 1850s/60s. Any information on him would be great.
  4. Information on snooker in Donegal Town prior to 1940 is scanty. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Anyone with anecdotes, documentation, winners trophies/prizes from years gone by, etc. can contact Tom at the club, or by writing to him at Breifne, Clareden Drive, Donegal Town.
