DONEGAL TOWN SNOOKER CLUB

The club's teams had a turbulent week in both the Donegal and Derry leagues. The final fixture prior to the knockout stages in the latter saw Donegal only manage a draw against CYMS B. Michael Neary was the saviour, winning two nil against Chris Gibbons. Tom Plunkett drew with Adrian McFadden in a quality game in which both players had 30+ breaks. Martin Mulhern met a juggernaut in Danny Gibbons. The young Letterkenny man stormed to a two nil victory with an impressive display of potting.

Killea seemed like the Little Big Horn on Wednesday last with Paul Thomas in the role of Custer. Unlike George, Paul ground out a victory in just over two hours while all around him scalps were being taken with alacrity. Tom Plunkett ran out of ammo halfway through his match with Shane Grant and he was eventually hog-tied in no uncertain manner, losing his Donegal unbeaten record into the bargain. Martin Mulhern tried to rally the troops but to no avail. He lost two one while Alan Ramsay saw his hopes disappear at a quarter to midnight. Mark McGroary played well but couldn't shake off ex-Derry champion Robert Brown. The crimson jam in the doughnuts afterwards was symbolic of the carnage that had occurred on the tables.

Francis Cassidy was doing some head hunting himself in the Sean McCafferty Cup. First he eliminated treasurer Patsy McNulty and then he took the scalp of Michael Neary in a match that contained kick-boxing manoeuvres, copious amounts of Mr. Sheen and a referee who was seeing apparitions. But who could blame him when no one else could believe what they were seeing. Jim Kenny defeated Michael Hunt in the Barry Mulreany sponsored Harry Diver Cup and he must fancy his chances of winning this year's competition.
