Third placed Donegal came unstuck once again against Twin Towns A in their latest Lyric Donegal League match. The key match saw Jack McGranaghan gain revenge for his defeat earlier in the season in Donegal Town. He easily defeated his then conqueror Tom Plunkett 2-0. Charlie Murphy lifted Donegal spirits by defeating up-and-coming youngster Jason Browne 2-1 and Paul Thomas had the same scoreline in his match with a plucky Daniel O'Brien. Star of the night was young Simon Connolly who showed great maturity in defeating Michael Neary 2-0 to earn a draw for Twin Towns.
The club had previously won a tough encounter with fourth placed Convoy A in Convoy. Charlie Murphy got the away side off to a good start, winning by two frames to nil against John Lynch. Oliver Plunkett made it two nil to Donegal by beating Gordon Galbraith. Willie Breen began the fight-back, defeating Paul Thomas two nil. Tom Plunkett had to come from behind to get the better of an in-form Justin Lynch two one, guaranteeing all three points for Donegal Town.
Donegal won their fourth Junior League match four nil away to Convoy. Conor Browne, Mark Mulhern and Nicholas Culloo all won two nil but Ciaran O'Reilly was made to dig deep in his game, coming from 30 odd behind in his final frame to win against Seamus Sweeney.
Donegal drew at home to George's Bar in the Derry League. Tom Plunkett defeated Kevin McKinney 2-0, Oliver Plunkett came from behind to draw with Eddie Conway but Michael Neary lost 2-0 to in-form John Doran.
Donegal Town drew their final Derry fixture of the season away to George's Bar. Michael Neary was unfortunate to meet scratch man Gerry Stainsby who blitzed the Mountcharles man in a potting display the likes of which the team have rarely seen. George's Bar would have been a different proposition this season if this guy had been playing regularly. Oliver Plunkett had a 31 break in his draw with John Doran and Tom Plunkett salvaged some pride for Donegal by taking the last two frames against Kevin McKinney, helped by a 51 break along the way. This was Tom's second 50 break in a row in Derry. The club have finished fifth of nine teams in their section. Last year the club finished third and very nearly dumped the eventual winners of the league in the quarter-finals. This season has seen only Oliver Plunkett emerge with an unbeaten record in individual matches, while brother Tom's poor form has seen the club lose too many frames. New blood is required to refresh the team and hopefully next season the promising group of juniors will produce a few candidates.
