Salvador Dali (1904-1989) is regarded by many as the 20th century's most famous surrealist.  His works include "The Persistence of Time" which depicts those famous hanging clocks.  His favourite subject was how to discover one's genius.  Each morning he would awaken and declare "the greatest of joys is mine: that of being Salvador Dali".  He drew influences from Picasso and the psychological theories of Freud.

He was obsessed with money and fame and was not liked by other surrealists.  They coined the anagramm "Avida Dollars", highlighting his addiction to money.  His later works included religious and scientific themes.  He also worked with film, designing the dream sequence for Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound (1945).
