Corkery, who played his first adult game with Douglas.
21 years ago, the club, which 20 members played at st marys
school Rochestown. They then moved to scart, and just over 1 year
ago they moved to their present ground at Moneygourney.
Their clubhouse has been based in st. Columbas hall from day
membership has climbed steadily to over 80 members. Despite the
close proximity to senior clubs douglas has enjoyed tremendous
success. The first team currently plays in the munmster junior
league div. 2 after gaining promotion from the minors ranks 4
years ago by winning the qualifying league. This was largely
thanks to Finbarr OReagan and john white. Since 96/97
season.
The first team have one at least 1 trophy a year under the
Guidance of coach Mattie Marnell . Before promotion douglas won
the kelly cup 3 times, two MacCarthy cups, Munster junior 2 cup,
96/97 season douglas finished third in the div. 3 league and made
history by being the only div. 3 side to win the munster junior
plate by beating such teams like mallow, dolphin, Ballincollig,
Nenagh, and Thurlas in the final who were div. 1 leaders at the
time, 97/98 season we won div, 3 un-beaten.
Last season we finished fourth in div.2, a fantastic record for a
young club the second team has also enjoyed great success over
the years only three weeks ago they won the osullivan cup
for the second year running, and over the years had great wins in
cup and league.
