The railway bar was purchased by Dan and Molly
Porter in 1952 and refurbished in a unique maritime style which
reflected Lough Swilly's sea fishing tradition and in particular
Buncrana's herring industry which operated in close proximity
to the railway station until the 1930's . The premises has been
maintained in this style to the present day, and is much admired
and loved by patrons. In 1970 the remaining sections of the former
railway station were purchased by Dan and Molly .
Since that time the building has operated as a public house trading
under the name 'Drift Inn'.
Newly refurbished, 'Drift Inn' is now even better equipped
to cater for all your needs.
This fine steeply gabled two storey building, with it's distintive
L&LSR brickwork and decorative elements is one of the finest
examples of station houses in the area and perhaps in the country.
The premises is located as one approaches Buncrana from the South
on the main Derry road.
Buncrana is a thriving business and holiday town. It is situated
at the "gateway" to the spectacularly beautiful Inishowen
peninsula and is just 14 miles away from Derry City. 'Drift
Inn' is ideally situated with regard to the many leisure activities
available in the area . Our premises is within walking distance
of the new G.A.A. pitch at railway road which was officially opened
in Spring 1997.
We are within walking distance also of Buncrana leisure centre,
comprising of swimming pool, fully equipped gymnasium, all weather
pitch and running track. There are two all weather tennis courts
just opposite the Leisure centre.
