What does the Civil Defence do?

As a member of the Civil Defence you may be called upon to respond to various emergencies. Depending on what service you are a member of you may be called to do different tasks, here are a number of these emergencies:

• Radiological Emergencies: In our modern technologically driven world the prospects of accidents involving nuclear materials or plants is ever present. Civil Defence will continue to train and develope its response capability in this important area.

• Blizzard Conditions: In times of severe weather, especially in weather conditions, many services are unable to operate. Civil Defence has helped communities in the past and in particular areas where this problem arises on a regular basis, efforts will be concentrated to assist and protect vunerable people.
• Flooding: Certain areas of the country are subject to periodic flooding and a well planned and organised Civil Defence response can help alleviate many local problems.
• Forest-Fire Fighting: State forests are an important national recource. The danger of serious loss through fire is ever present. Civil Defence will train to be part of the responce where such incidents are likely to occur.
