Our School

St. Joseph's  National School has a dynamic staff of 18 teachers and 3 Special Needs Assistants.   We, as teachers share with you the noble task of educating our young people.
This task has two important aims:

Each child is a complex individual with many and varied needs.  Through our school curriculum, we aim to cater for the full and harmonious development of each child.  This can be achieved only through positive parent teacher co-operation which we value so highly in St. Joseph’s National School .We are a catholic  primary school under the patronage of the Bishop of Meath Dr. Michael Smith. We strive to provide a well ordered, caring, happy and secure atmosphere where the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural needs of our pupils are identified and developed.

As partners in this educational process, management, staff and parents are conscious of the importance of encouraging the growth of positive behaviour and self-esteem. We aim to imbue in our pupils respect for people, property and for our school.  While St. Joseph's National School is a school with a catholic ethos , it also gives due recognition to all other religions.

We strive to promote both individually and collectively, the professional and personal development of our wonderful team of teachers through staff development programmes.

We encourage the involvement of parents through home/school contacts and through their involvement in our vibrant Parent Association.

We endeavour to instil pride and joy in the treasures of the Irish culture and language in our pupils. Labhartar Gaeilge sa scoil.

Our school motto is:

Mol an óige is tiocfaidh sí.

 Our School

St. Joseph's National School was built in April 1953. It is built of locally manufactured bricks. It replaced an old school building situated in the centre of the town .This old school was built in 1899 and celebrated its centenary in 1999. It is now known as the Matt Talbot Parochial Centre and is used by the community.

On the 25th of June 1984 the new extension to St Joseph's School was officially opened by Mr. Tom Fitzpatrick Ceann Comhairle. The school was blessed by Dr. Michael Smith , Bishop of Meath.

Statue of St. Joseph

At the front entrance to the school we have a seven foot statue of St. Joseph depicted
feeding the birds with the Christ Child. The sculptor was GARRY TRIMBLE [1929-1979].
He is renowned for painting portraits of our past presidents Éamonn De Valera , Cearbhaill
Ó' Dálaigh and of famous politicians including Charles Haughey and Seán Mac Bride. He also
made the statue of St. Patrick for St. Patrick's Church, Bermuda.

Amalgamation of St. Joseph’s Boys’ and Girls’ National School

On the 1st September 2003 our schools amalgamated. This marked a historic occasion in the history of primary education in Kingscourt. St. Joseph's Boys' and St. Joseph's Girls' combined their talents and experience and formed our amalgamated school, now renamed as St. Joseph’s National School. Our amalgamation has been a wonderful success for our pupils, parents, teachers and management.
