It was December 22nd and everyone in the North Pole was busy at work, especially the elves. This year the children were very greedy. The elves, in particular, were working hard. Gizmo, Buzzy and Taz were in charge of making the teddy bears and lots of children wanted teddy bears. Gizmo was very tired and started moaning. ' Why doesn't Santa do his own work?' 'Yeah' agreed Taz. 'I know' shouted Buzzy, 'Let's go on strike'.
So they all marched down to Santa's office,thumped on the door and barged in .Santa was sitting at his desk checking his Christmas list.Gizmo scurried to the front and peered over Santa's desk ."Is there a problem, Gizmo?" asked Santa."We-ll , ye-s there is" mumbled Gizmo.Taz, who was standing at the back plucked up some courage and said,"As of this minute we're on strike. We want shorter hours ,longer holidays and better pay just like the teachers."
Santa was dumbstruck and said absolutely nothing for a few seconds. For Buzzy,Taz and Gizmo this seemed like an eternity. Still silent, Santa slowly removed his glasses and placed them carefully on the table in front of him. He gave a deep sigh and the elves recognised this as the one he used only in the most serious situations. They immediately recalled the Christmas of 1997 when the last major crisis struck the North Pole. That was the year Rudolph caught pneumonia and the whole global Christmas operation was put in jeopardy.
They turned quietly and crept out. Later that night Gizmo in his dreams had a flashback to one Christmas of great sadness when the elves went on strike. His Christmas was ruined and he remembered the reason why he became an elf. Next morning Gizmo went back to the workshop and met up with Buzzy and Taz. Gizmo told Buzzy and Taz about his dream. To his amazement they had had the very same dream."We know what we have to do" said Buzzy. Yes" said Taz. "Lets' go straight to Santa's office and apologise".
The happy elves informed Santa of their decision. Naturally, he was happy that no child would be disappointed this Christmas. And guess what? The elves got their pay rise after all!!
