John Eagle's Recommended Places to Stay
When I tour Ireland looking for places to stay I often find some real gems. Many visitors to our shores ask me where would be the best place to stay. I mentioned some in my book but since its publication some places have closed and some have opened. So as you make plans to tour Ireland, please consider these places to spend the night and relax in.
Goleen, Mizen Head Peninsula
The Heron's Cove, Goleen tel: 028 35225 is bathed by the light of the Fastnet Rock lighthouse. It is on the Mizen Peninsula, a short drive from the famous Mizen Head Visitors Centre with its suspension bridge and stunning steep cliffs.
The Heron's Cove is in a tranquil spot, a place to relax and enjoy really great food

Howth, Co. Dublin
When I go to Dublin on business or pleasure my preferred place to stay is Howth as it is easy to get to on the DART and nicely out of the way. A fishing village with lovely walks. There is the old lighthouse on the pier and the famous Baily close by overlooking Dublin Bay. In a lovely location on the waterfront is the King Sitric. It offers fine fish cuisine and excellant accomodation.

Blacksod, Co Mayo
I am often out on the Belmullet Peninsula in North Mayo, an area dear to my heart with its wild seascapes vistas and numerous lighthouses such as Blackrock, Eagle Island, Broadhaven and Blacksod. Lots of beaches and good food to be had. When I go there I prefer to stay at Brú Chlann Lir. The B&B is close to all the lighthouses there.

Eyeries, Beara, Co. Cork
People coming Eyeries for workshops with me will stay at one of two excellant B&Bs here, both have magnificent views of Coulagh Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The first is Coulagh Bay House which looks straight out to sea, with Skellig Michael in the distance. The B&B stands close to the village.

Eyeries Village with Coulagh Bay
A short distance further up the road, set back off the road, is Formanes House which is close to where I grew up as a child. You are close to the lighthouses of the Beara Peninsula, Ardnakinna, Roancarrig, and Bull Rock
