Schools these days are exciting places to work in, for teachers and pupils alike. Multi-media software and Internet tools offer endless possibilities topressM.gif (6005 bytes) promote and foster learning right across the curriculum. The pupils of the "Special Class" here in Edmund Rice Primary School,Tramore worked with a Third Grade class in Galesburg, Illinois. Initially, we were to work with a higher grade class , but due to circumstances beyond our control, this did not work out. The project has proved very beneficial to both sets of students and teachers, and has introduced them to such areas as --: editing text and graphics, scanning and image editing, sound files, problems encountered when working with cross platforms, and the structure and layout of a website.

The project is laid out as follows:

  1. Introduction to Project
  2. Profile of Schools
  3. Meet the Groups
  4. Meet the Teachers
  5. Our School Day
  6. Life Outside School
  7. Schools of the Future
  8. Joint Story
  9. Link to Main School Site

I would like to say a special thanks to Mrs. Sally Nelson from Raymond Marquith Elementary  School for all her support, hard work and enthusiasm which she and her pupils  showed in working through this project. A special word of thanks to my own class, who worked under severe pressure to see the project through to its conclusion. We hope you enjoy our project as much as we enjoyed putting it together. I would also like to thank the Battye family for their support.

Sources of the project.
The main sources of the project has been the children's own experience. For a number of the  images we searched the Internet for animated gifs, pictures of computer related items, and information about Jamaica and Galesburg.. The pupils put their text work on to disc, which was transfered to a main folder on the teacher's machine..fpbluestripe.gif (3536 bytes) Most of the photographs were taken by the pupils themselves  using a digital camera. All information including text and graphics were e-mailed from Galesburg to Tramore, where it was edited and assembled using Microsoft Frontpage 98. This proved hard work initiallly but after a few dry runs most of the pupils managed to work on their own pages.
