The East Galway School of Music was established in January 1999 as an initiative of the Glenamaddy Musical Society. The Society has been mounting an annual production since 1994, but recognised that there was a demand in the area for music lessons and set about satisfying it.
Research was done to see if it was feasible to start a school of music as there was none in the area and students had to travel long distances if they wanted to learn music. The results of this research proved positive and the organisation known as the East Galway School of Music Glenamaddy came into existence.
It first opened its doors to students in January of 1999 and has gone from strength to strength since then.
It is community based and is administered by a Voluntary Executive Committee. It covers a radius of approximately twenty miles to include towns such as Tuam, Dunmore, Mountbellew, Castlerea, Clonberne & Roscommon.
