DECISIONS

Wouldn’t it be great if we could conjure up some kind of all-knowing genie from a bottle every time we had a decision to make!  A genie who could say “well now, sure 'tis as simple as this – if you decide to do “A” you’ll be happy as Larry and if you do ‘B” you’ll end up miserable as sin!”  “Marry Joe and you’ll both live happily ever after, marry Pat and he’ll batter you round the house every single week-end for the rest of your life!”

Decisions!  Decisions!  Decisions!  Have you ever noticed that it always seems to be just when you have figured it all out, made your decisions and laid your plans that life jumps up and hits you over the back of the head?  You’ve worked your backside off for your Leaving Cert., got your place in College – now you’re pregnant and can hardly remember how it happened!  You’ve saved your deposit for the house, found the house of your dreams, even got your mortgage sanctioned and the sale falls through!  There’s always some fly in the ointment – isn’t there!  And if you’re a good problem-solver it can get even worse – like a game of chess – you figure out your way around one obstacle but, damn it!  Watch out here comes an even bigger fly!!!!

So, what’s the solution?  Where do you find this genie?  Well, I can TELL you the answer, but I must be honest and say that while the answer is simple – putting it into practice takes a lot of practice!  The genie is inside yourself, but probably buried under years of self-sacrifice, people-pleasing and institutionalized teaching.  So….. wake up the genie!  Keep asking yourself, out loud if possible, over and over and over again – “What do I REALLY want?  In my heart of hearts what do I REALLY want?”  When you think you know the answer – picture what is most likely to happen in your life, around you – once you have taken that decision.  Then ask yourself how you will feel about that – will you be happy ?

The world would prefer you to use your head but your heart is closer to God and your higher consciousness.  My personal opinion is that we can have heaven on earth (if we but learn to see it) and I will take that any day before the “Valley of Tears” scenario.  I don’t believe we are here to suffer but suffering and troubles can be what bring us back to seeing what is truly important and relevant.
