Tá spéis ar leith ag Poblachtaigh i ndáta na Cásca. Bíonn ullmhúcháin le déanamh gach bliain le comóradh cuí a dhéanamh ar laochra ár dtíre, na fir agus na mná a fuair bás ar son saoirse na hÉireann.
Titeann Domhnach Cásca i mí na Márta nó i mí Aibreáin. Is é 22ú Márta an dáta is luaithe agus is é 25ú Aibreán an dáta is déanaí. Tá féile na Cásca chomh sean leis an gCríostaíocht féin, 2000 bliain nó mar sin. Is éard atá sa bhféile seo ná comóradh ar bhás agus aiséirí Íosa Críost, de réir na Soiscéalaithe agus traidisiún na hEaglaise nó na nEaglaisí.
Tharla na heachtraí seo sa Phalaistín le linn Cháisc na nGiúdach (Pessah), féile a bhfuil a préamhacha ag dul i bhfad níos faide siar fós, agus a dhéanann comóradh ar an gcaoi a dtáinig na Giúdaigh slán as an ngéibheann san Éigipt (Leabhar Eaxodus).
Ní raibh an Chríostaíocht i bhfad ar an bhfód sna tíortha timpeall na Meánmhara nuair a thosaigh easaontas faoi dháta na Cásca. Ba cheist mhór í seo toisc go raibh aiséirí Chríost ina bhunchloch sa chreideamh.
Sa bhliain 325 AD tionóladh comhdháil i Nicaea, áit atá sa Tuirc anois (Iznik) agus socraíodh dáta na Cásca mar a leanas: an chéad Domhnach tar éis na chéad lánghealaí tar éis Chónocht an Earraigh (21ú Márta). Bhíothas ag áireamh na ndátaí agus na míonna de réir fhéilire Iúil Caesar (45 R Ch), ar ndóigh.
Bhí go maith agus ní raibh go holc, go dtí go bhfuarthas amach go raibh fabht i bhféilire Chaesair. Nuair a d’fhógair an Pápa Gréagóir XIII leasú ar an bhféilire seo agus nuair a thug sé isteach an féilire Gréagórach, atá againn anois, i 1582, ghlac Críostaithe an iarthair leis. Ach bhí drogall ar na stáit a ghlac leis an Eaglais Leasaithe (Na Protastúnaigh) agus ar thíortha san oirthear, ina raibh na Críostaithe Ceart-chreidmheacha líonmhar, cosúil leis an nGréig agus an Rúis, glacadh le breithiúnas na Róimhe sna cúrsaí seo.
Glacann eolaithe agus réalteolaithe leis anois go raibh an ceart ag Gréagóir. Bhí gá le 10 lá a dhíbirt nó a ligean ar lár as an bhféilire i 1582 chun é a cheartú. Níor ghlac Sasana leis seo go dtí 1752 (agus bhí Éire faoi smacht Shasana), nuair ba ghá 11 lá a dhíbirt. Níor ghlac an Rúis leis go dtí an Réabhlóid i 1917 agus níor ghlac an Ghréig leis go dtí 1923, nuair ba ghá 13 lá a dhíbirt.
Bhí baol siosma in Eaglais Cheartchreidmheach na Gréige mar gheall ar an leagan amach nua seo. Socraíodh ar chomhréiteach: ghlac siad leis an bhféilire Gréagórach le haghaidh dáta na Nollag agus gach uile dháta eile, cé is moite de dháta na Cásca. Go dtí an lá inniu féin áiríonn siadsan dáta na Cásca de réir fhéilire Iúil Caesar.
Sa bhliain 1997 tháinig ionadaithe ó na hEaglaisí éagsúla le chéile in Aleppo sa tSiria chun fadhb dháta na Cásca a réiteach arís. Glacann siad uile le breith chomhdháil Nicaea, ach molann siad gur cóir nóinlíne Iarúsailéim a úsáid in áireamh an dáta. Caithfidh siad labhairt leis na réalteolaithe agus tuilleadh staidéir agus taighde a dhéanamh. Beidh cruinniú eile acu an bhliain seo chugainn, 2001.
Maidir leis an mbliain 2001, beidh an dá dháta don Cháisc ag teacht le chéile an bhliain sin. Is é sin le rá, beidh an Cháisc de réir fhéilire Chaesair agus an Cháisc de réir fhéilire Ghréagóra ar an lá céanna – an 15ú Aibreán. Beidh Críostaithe an iarthair agus Críostaithe an oirthir ag comóradh ar an lá céanna.
Dála an scéil, bhí Domhnach Cásca ar an 23ú Aibreán sa bhliain 2000, agus Luan Cásca ar an 24ú lá, ar ndóigh. Bhí Luan Cásca, dáta éirí amach na Cásca 1916, ar an 24ú Aibreán chomh maith.
Níor tharla sé seo ach trí huaire roimh 1916 – i 1628, 1848 agus 1905, agus níor tharla sé ó shin go dtí an bhliain 2000 – cúig huaire san iomlán, ó tháinig féilire Ghréagóra i bhfeidhm i 1582.

FURTHER evidence of Crown Forces manipulation of loyalist death-squads and the involvement of both parties in the killing of nationalists emerged on November 5 with the revelation that the fingerprints of a former UDA/UFF chief were found on leaked British Intelligence documents.
The information leaked to the Stevens’ inquiry team add weight to nationalist claims of collusion between Crown Forces and the death squads.
According to press reports of November 5, Johnny Adair’s finger prints were found on documents given to him by the Forces Research Unit (FRU) of the British Army.
It is further claimed that the finger prints of another loyalist bigot Michael Stone were also found in the files.
Four people have already been arrested and released on bail in relation to the files. The move is worrying the British, who fear the development may further alienate the UDA/UFF.
The Stevens team reopened their investigation into the 1989 killing of lawyer Pat Finucane following public demand.
Reports also claim that files on two members of the Colonial Police Special Branch have been sent to the British Director of Public
Prosecutions, with recommendations that they be charged in connection with Finucane’s killing.
The two are said to have been handlers of William Stobie, a double agent in the RUC and UDA/UFF at the time of the murder of the Belfast lawyer.
Stobie was charged with conspiracy to murder Pat Finucane.

IN A statement the Republican Sinn Fein POW Department Belfast said that on Monday night, November 13 two remand prisoners on a political charge in Maghaberry were attacked by a number of prison officers as they used the prison phone.
The statement continued: “Both men suffered a period of brutality before being strip-searched and made to stand naked while humiliating body searches were carried out.
“The attack started as one of the prisoners talked to his wife on the phone. His wife told Republican Sinn Fein’s POW Department what she heard.
“First there was shouting, then screaming. She heard a Scottish voice shouting threats that her husband would end up dead. There was a number of voices and a lot of shouting and screams before the phone went dead.
“The remand prisoners wife has been left in a very distressed state.
“We have since learned a number of threats were made against the prisoners. One of them was told by a prison officer that he would be found dead in his cell just like a prisoner that was found hanged some time ago in Maghaberry prison.
“Once again political prisoners are fighting the full force of prison brutality. The prison administration are running a policy that is a crucial element in breaking political prisoners through brutality and dehumanising searches but the fact that prison officers have made threats to the effect that one of the prisoners will be found dead shows the real dangers prisoners on political charges have to face.
“We call on everyone to support the political prisoners and help in any way they can to highlight the conditions in Maghaberry prison.”

ON November 15 it was learned that Tommy Crossan had been moved to a new block (Roe House) within the prison which also houses the UDA prisoner Johnny Adair, which for that reason is commonly known as ‘Adair House’.
As reported in a previous statement two remand prisoners were attacked and threatened by prison officers on November 13. The prisoners were sharing a cell up until then but have since been moved to separate parts of the prison.
There seems to be a clear policy in the prison of isolating Republican prisoners and putting them in close proximity to loyalist and other prisoners.
The prisoners’ demands remain, for recognition as a group, segregation and the right to appoint their own spokesperson.
