They refer to the old Irish legend of Fionn Mac Cumhaill who aquired supernatural knowlege when he involuntarily tasted the flesh of this forbidden delicacy. Eo is an archaic word for salmon; bradán is the common word. The author now lives in the County Kildare village of Léim an Bhradáin "the leap of the salmon" named Leixlip by the Vikings.
