Litir a scríobh - - to write a letter.
You were playing on the school team when you won the final.
Write a letter to a friend telling him/her about it.
This letter is an example of what might be an appropriate response to Roinn IV of the Junior Cert Higher Level Paper II or the Leaving Cert Ordinary Level although the level of Irish in my letter is probably slightly more complex than that required to get an "A". Nevertheless . . .
In grammar I hope to deal with nouns, their cases, and declensions in this lesson.
foireann na scoile - - the school team
cluiche ceannais - - the final i.e. the match of supremacy
These are examples of the tuiseal ginideach - - genitive case which is important in Irish. Before learning the tuiseal ginideach you need to know the tuiseal ainmneach - - the nominative case or common form of the noun. The next three pages of grammar deal with the tuiseal ainmneach, the occasions when the tuiseal ginideach is used and then the forms of the tuiseal ginideach in each of the five groups - - na cúig díochlaontaí - - the five declensions of nouns. Study these pages in sequence and I think you will find them easy and you will aquire a very thorough knowledge of the nouns. They will provide a basis for you to add to as you meet other examples in your reading and listening.
