Gradually whenever I can find the time I am adding to this
site. It is slow work although pleasant. At present I am preparing
a lesson on the conditional tense. I have also begun to prepare
little games to make the learning more interesting. I will
have more to say about this later. You can already see the
first attempt on Lesson 101. I have also revised the Exercises
in Lesson 102. I am not yet having much success in adding
sound files to the site although I am sure I will succeed
eventually.
I am pleased to acknowledge receipt of $150 sponsorship of
the site from one of our students. This is the first major
contribution to defraying the cost of maintaining the site
online and is extremely welcome. Future plans include placing
a search engine on the site and perhaps password protecting
part of it but that will require technical assistance.
I have been asked on more than one occasion why I write
this material. Briefly it is my small personal contribution
to the survival and revival of the Irish language, the language
of all my grand-parents and their communities in North Cavan
and Leitrim (19th Century) as well as a significant part
of the culture and knowledge of my immediate family in this
generation. We have learnt most of our Irish in school or
in visits to the Gaeltacht but also from the vocabulary,
phrases, and stories passed down to us by our parents who
would love to have had the opportunities we had. I am proud
to be able to use this medium to further the cause of the
language and share my knowledge with people throughout the
world who cherish it.
