Brief Description This is an extension of the walk up Binn Leitrí described earlier, continuing along the gentle ridge towards Binn Gabhár. Route Description From the summit of Binn Leitrí continue North along the ridge towards the next peak Binn Gábhar (the Peak of the Goats). This is quite an easy walk and takes only 20 to 25 minutes. From the summit of Binn Gábhar one can admire the view over the Gleann Cnochán Horseshoe. to the North and East. There is a very steep gully and cliff on the north face of Binn Gabhár, so be careful , particularly in bad weather conditions. One has a choice to return the way one came or to descend the East ridge of Binn Gábhar into the Gleann Cnochán itself. The later route can be quite wet at times, so, be prepared for muddy socks! I recommend Ballinahinch Castle for tea and sandwiches, served in a silver pot. There is usually a warm fire in the bar and their Guinness is always good! |
