Our development is at an advanced stage. The commitment by the National Lottery in March to provide a grant of 250,000 euro was a huge boost. The plans were immediately commenced. Tenders were sought for the pitch work i.e. levelling the new pitch, moving of the main pitch and widening of the juvenile pitch. Following examination of the tehders received by our engineers Horgan & Lynch, Cork Landscaping Co. were awarded the contract. The contractor moved on site on the 1st of September and to date the following work has been completed. Stage 1. (a) Levelling of new pitch - this required the bringing on site of 3500 cubic metres of fill. (b) The draining of the new pitch (c) The removal of both banks and fencing from the main pitch and moving of pitch approximately 12 metres towards the road. (d) The formation of two new banks
Stage 2 will consist of the following: (a) Spreading of top soil (b) Reseeding banks (c) The laying of ducts for floodlights (d) The re-sodding of new area of main pitch (e) The comletion of development of reclaimed area behind lower goal (f) The laying of roadway along northern side (by road-side) and down behind top goal side of main pitch
Stage 3 - Finall stage will involve: (a) Floodlighting (b) Seeding of new pitch (c) All building works associated with the development i.e. goalposts, dugouts, pump house, electrical sub station, scoreboard and car park (d) Fitting of high level netting on both sides of the new pitch plus extensions to nets behind goals in main pitch.
It is hoped to have the programme of work completed by mid April 2003 and to officially reopen the new pitches in mid-summer.
