Feeheley Feehely Feehley Feehily Fehely Fehily Fehilly Feeley Feely Field	A surname of ancient Gaelic origin. Three distinct septs exist; in Munster where it is a sept of the Corcha Laoidhe, in Connacht where it is a sept of the Síl Murraidhe and in Ulster with the prefix Mc. The Munster sept held territory in West Cork until the early 17^th century when they were disposessed by English colonists [ Location Map .] One spelling in Gaelic has produced over 15 anglicised versions, surely a record for any surname! This process occurred during the change over from Gaelic to English in the 18^th and particularly the 19^th century when the population was largely illiterate. Documents show different spellings for father and child and even for the same person over their lifetime. The form of spelling often depended on the whim of the recording official involved!
